Perris snatches victory in the last stride
20yo North Beach athlete Chad Perris has stormed home to win by 0.01sec in the Christina’s Restaurant 120m Gift on Friday Night at the WA Athletics Stadium.
As the 50 year Perth Commonwealth Games celebrations continued around the main stadium, West Coast Athletics League athletes enjoyed some quick times in the fast 120m heats with drifting 1-2m+ tailwinds assisting performance.
After some adjustments were made to the initial handicaps from the heats, spectators were in for a thrilling final that saw Perris (with only 8% vision) claim victory in the final step. Leading all the way to eventually finish runner up was 15yo Melville ROAR athlete Alex Brown competing in his first Pro race. The Blues Cole Unasa was in third place after finishing the 120m distance with a late surge.
