Watts wins in style
15yo Ross High Performance athlete Sophie Watts has won the $505 Christina’s Restaurant 550m Race on a windy Friday night at the WAAS.
The second winner from the RHP stable to win the major prize in the $1500 three race series Watts (pictured above with coach Glenn Ross) stormed home to claim victory in a swift 1.06.09sec for UWA. Going into the lead with 150m to go she took control and was never passed. Fellow Surf Lifesaver Brittanny Brymer was second with an impressive time of 1.06.81sec and Pro debutant Daniel McQuie from UWA was third clocking 1.07.65sec.
The win catapults Watts into the lead for the 550m events with 16 points in the WCAL standings. She has also put herself in third position on the Overall Championship leaderboard, and her team UWA (46 points) into equal second place with Curtin University (also on 46 points) in the teams standings.
She will now head over east with the rest of the RHP group to take part in the eastern states Professional carnivals, which includes the $50 000 Bay Sheffield event at Glenelg beach in South Australia over the Xmas period. In the early New Year on January 5th she will also be looking to compete at WA’s largest Pro event the $15 000 Peel Health Campus Peel Gift at Peel Thunder Football Club.

Alex Brown (MEL) – 70m 15yo Roger Parenzee Melville ROAR trained athlete with PB’s 60m: 8.08(26/10/12) Tartan, 100: 12.58(16/11/12) Tartan, 200: 24.98(16/11/12) Tartan, 400: (9/11/12) – 56.33sec, 800m: (26/20/12) – 2.14.27sec . Talented junior made excellent Pro debut with heat win and second place in 120m final. Looks to continue his good run of form here. (2, 1h).
Ben Catley (WTC) – 45m 20yo Russell Mathanda trained West Track athlete with PB’s: 60m: 7.65sec (27-01-2012), 100m: 11.59sec (05-11-2010), 200m: 23.73sec (21-01-2011). Recent form: 60m 7.79 (26/10/2012) @ WAAS, 200m 25.20 (26/10/2012) @ WAAS. Last start Pro 70m was 3rd in 7.82sec from 9m. Solid performer has a couple of Pro race’s notched up now and looks to improve here. (7h, 3h).

Gemma Grigg (SLSWA) – 115m 26yo from the RHP stable. Runner Up 120m Mullewa Gift 2012. Winner Mullewa 120m Novice Race 2012.Top beach sprinter and member of the RHP stable at UWA/Surf Lifesaving WA. PB’s 100m: 12.9. 200m: 26.46. Finished 5th in 2011 Dardenup 120m Novice final off 26m. She was the only female in the Stawell Novice Final and made the Albury Novice final earlier in the year as well. Has good speed shown in recent Mullewa Novice 120m race. Jane Stockley (NBA) – 127m 19yo Talented high jumper with 100m PB of 13.82sec. 2nd place at the 2011/12 WA State Open Championships in HJ. Finalist at 2012 Australian Junior Champs HJ. 3rd place in final at Rockingham 550m Feb 2012. 3rd in High Jump at the WALA state championships 2009 and 2010. Liam Watson (NBA) – 119m 14yo athlete talented North Beach all-rounder with PB’s: 100m 13.91sec 19/11/11, 200m 28.51sec 26/11/11. Christina’s Restaurant was established in 1994 by Christine Harding and she is still the proud owner of the café. Christina’s has become a popular place to eat and to be seen, building a solid reputation for quality food and good service.
Since opening, Christina’s has been amongst the favourites in Perth, winning The Restaurant and Catering Industry Association of Western Australia Awards which include a Gold Plate and 13 Awards of Excellence.
Her staff call her ‘The Diva’, for being the quintessential restaurant hostess who loves to ‘feed’ people with generous portions. Children are welcome and are catered for with their own menu.
Christine Harding has been an active participant in sponsoring local sport clubs. She was a founding member of the WA Concierge Award and is still active in contributing to the community.
